About image
Schuyler Rhodes has spent much of the last three decades as a Pastor, teacher and community organizer.  Currently he lives in Southern Utah, from whence he travels to preach, teach and assist communities as they seek vision and direction for the future.

Rhodes received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the State University of New York at Potsdam and his Master of Divinity with honors from Drew University in Madison, New Jersey. Schuyler has also carried on graduate studies in Literature and Criticism at the State University of New York at Albany, and in Liberation Theology at Maryknoll School of Theology.

Schuyler spent seven years serving as a Superintendent in the California Nevada Conference of the United Methodist Church.   Prior to accepting the post of Superintendent, Rhodes served as Pastor of Temple United Methodist Church in San Francisco for thirteen years. He has served churches in New York City, New Jersey, and in rural New York State. His other experiences include Campus Ministry, Retreat Director, Teacher and Workshop Leader, and serving as the National Director for Peace with Justice Week. Schuyler has had extensive experience as a preacher and public speaker, traveling throughout Europe, Latin America, Asia and the United States. He has also served as Consultant on Peace and Justice ministries to churches and denominational bodies across the United States. He also served for nine years as President of the Board of Directors of the Interreligious Foundation for Community Organization.

Schuyler has served on the Board of Directors of the California Council of Churches and the San Francisco United Methodist Mission. A particular passion of his is to be able to work as a mentor to seminary students and young people. His work with students has taken him to Drew University Theological School as a Prophet in Residence, and also as an adjunct teacher in the Doctor of Ministry Program. He has also been deeply involved in the ministry of his denomination, the United Methodist Church, where he has held number of ministry responsibilities beyond the local church.

An accomplished author, Rev. Rhodes has published numerous articles and monographs, as well as eight books, “Journey Through The Psalms,” “Words of Hope and Clarity,” “Words for a Birthing Church,” "Pentecost Fire: Preaching Hope in Times of Change (CSS Press)" and "Words to the Silence: A Book of Uncommon Prayer (Ed. Min. Press)." He also wrote a regular column for “Emphasis Preaching Journal” for seven years. His latest book, “Shouting Joy to the Storm,” was published by CSS Press in the spring of 2019.
He is married to Lisa Quoresimo and is the father of Emma Elizabeth and Aaron Schuyler, both age 28. Both children are launched into professional pursuits and make their parents very proud. Schuyler’s spare time interests involve a love of playing and writing music, cooking, and tending his backyard garden at his home in Southern Utah.   His newest adventure is to venture into writing a novel!

Without a passionate and commonly held vision it's difficult for communities and organizations to move forward with focus and efficiency. Schuyler is available to work with individual faith communities and not for profit organizations as they enter into visioning and strategic planning processes. Workshops or retreats or classes can be arranged according to specific needs
